ACCOMMODATION

The Pat Busch Mountain Reserve offers a variety of self-catering accommodations in several cosy & affordable cottages, a large rambling farmhouse perfect for big groups & extended families, exclusive units with outdoor wood-fired hot tubs, spa baths & hammocks, and ten boutique Africamps boutique glamping tents with magnificent mountain views.

FAMILY LODGE UNITS

Our comfortable & affordable, family lodge accommodations are self-catering units great for young families or couples on a budget. These units were renovated in the late 1980’s from one large clay outbuilding which consisted of the barn, stables & an adjoining wine cellar – hence the thick clay walls which keep our lodge units cool in summer and warm in winter. These units do share a common central wall, however, each units privacy has been maximised in that they each face a different direction with all their own facilities. They are suitable for young couples on a budget, or smaller families of 3-4 people who don’t want to break the bank, but need some fresh country air & braai time away from the city while their kids make new friends. All units have indoor fireplaces, ceiling fans, fully equipped kitchens, own bathrooms with showers, and outdoor undercover braais with potjies & all accessories..

EXCLUSIVE COTTAGES

Our exclusive self-catering accommodation in Nightjar, Hadeda & Oak cottages are a notch above the rest. These units offer creature comforts such as outdoor wood-fired hot tubs, air-conditioning, hammocks, spa baths, walk-in showers, soft white percale linen, electric blankets & feather duvets for winter. These exclusive cottages are situated some distance away from the rest of our accommodation, with Nightjar cottage being more open & exposed, offering sunshine & views down the valley, while Hadeda cottage is more romantic, private & secluded amongst wild olive trees offering more shade & birdlife. These units are next to each other and can either be booked separately for 2-4 guests each, or together for a group of 6-8. Oak cottage overlooks the meadow and has beautiful views of the mountains from the patio and hot tub.

FARMHOUSE ERIKA

Farmhouse Erika (including our Garden Flat below the main house) is the original rambling farmhouse which has been renovated numerous times over the generations, it boasts 7 large bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, 2 lounges (one with a smart wifi TV) and a large fully equipped kitchen with two fridges & dishwasher.
There is an undercover balcony with a built in braai & seating, plus a second larger open air braai under the oak trees, including a large campfire style firepit & an enormous No. 14 potjie pot, plus smaller potjies, all perfect for larger gatherings & groups.

VIEW DETAILS

DESTINATION WEDDINGS @ PAT BUSCH

At the end of a country road, set high in a fynbos valley surrounded by high mountains on 3 sides, you will find the idyllic Pat Busch Mountain Reserve. This private nature reserve lies just beyond Robertson in the Cape Winelands, less than 2 hours scenic drive from Cape Town, and is the perfect blank canvas, weekend destination wedding venue in the mountains.

We offer onsite accommodation for 60-100 guests within easy walking distances, and wedding couples will enjoy exclusivity of the reserve with very few limitations. Our wedding package includes all onsite accommodation, furniture, décor, crockery, cutlery, glassware & more. Our Reserve can accommodate up to 100 overnight guests if every bed is occupied, however comfort is maximised if we only accommodate 60-80 pax onsite.  With an additional bell tent glamping option we can accommodate more, alternatively there are nearby establishments for the bigger weddings.  Celebrations of up to 120 pax can be hosted without the need to hire any additional equipment, but much larger events can also be hosted at our unique natural venue, including outdoor festivals.

Couples have the freedom to plan the wedding of their dreams on our blank canvas venue with very few limitations. They will enjoy a wedding weekend with family & friends in a variety of quaint cottages, upmarket Africamps boutique glamping tents, and a large Farmhouse for the extended family or that group of party animal friends.

There are numerous ceremony areas from which to choose ranging from the jetty overlooking the mountain dam, to a poplar forest with a gurgling stream, a swish poolside setting or a lush meadow with mountain views, or a firm favourite is beneath the ancient oak tree. Any venue or a combination can be used for the ceremony, pre-drinks and the reception. Couples have the freedom to not only arrange a pre-wedding informal ‘Meet & Greet’ the night before the wedding, (which is the perfect opportunity to catch up with family & friends), but also an informal Farewell breakfast the day after the wedding. Here the newlyweds have a chance to say final thankyous & goodbyes to their wedding guests, expressing gratefulness for making lifelong wedding memories together.

Imagine celebrating your once in a lifetime special weekend on a private mountain reserve with family & friends staying onsite within walking distance. This reserve has very few limits and no noise curfews, so the music need not be switched off and the celebration can continue for as long & loud as desired. The bar need not close and couples are welcome to supply their own liquor, therefore corkage fees do not apply.

Catering enjoys the same freedoms in that couples are welcome to contact one of the reserves many recommended caterers, or the bride & groom can source their own chef to suite their palate and budget. The Pat Busch Reserve will supply a detailed contact list of recommended professional service providers who are all more than willing to assist with any facet of your wedding. The choice of service providers is completely up to the couple’s preferences and budget. Did we mention that couples are allowed to bring their family pet to the wedding?

AMENITIES & ACTIVITIES

Outdoor activities in nature on the Pat Busch Mountain Reserve include hiking & walking our mountain trails, trail running for the fit, exploring our wooded kloofs & streams, mountain biking on our farm roads, bass fishing, swimming in either the mountain dam or saltwater pool, paddling & kayaking, bird watching and plenty of outdoor activities involving clean country air and sunshine.

Please note that these on-site activities are offered exclusively to guests staying overnight and are not open to day visitors without a permit.

We had the privilege of staying at Hadeda cottage for 3 nights this past weekend and we had such an amazing time! We must thank you for a wonderfully relaxing venue which allowed us to escape our daily routine and frantic “race against time”. Our little girl thoroughly enjoyed the play area and our slow walks to the dam – and her favourite spot was cuddled up between the two of us as we sat in front of the fire! Thank you for a really great time. The chalet was incredibly comfortable with all our needs taken care of. We could really not ask for anything more! We know we’ll be back soon.

Thank you very much for the privilege and great joy it was for me to call ‘Nightjar’ my home for a few days! These spectacular mountains, vineyards and blossom-speckled trees have done wonders for my soul! I was in a wonderful ‘twilight zone’ somewhere between napping & reading, only exerting myself in the afternoons for a walk! I shall definately be back, and will tell everyone I know of this beautiful place and it’s immaculate, cosy, well-equipped cottages.

I believe that every now and then you need to get away from the city life and enjoy birds singing, peace & quiet. That’s what I found while relaxing on the green grass looking up to the clear blue sky. The cottage was so clean and perfect and the fireplace was just the cherry on top. I loved every minute of it!

Louis & Anneline Engels

Just to say thank you for a wonderful weekend in your lovely cottage – it was everything we had hoped for. We had time to do some wine tasting and we visited some local restaurants, but the best part was to go home to the little house in the mountains. We even saw some wildlife one evening when we returned after dark – a Cape Hare, a skunk and a porcupine, all of them crossing the road right in front of us! Thank you for your hospitality, for the lovely bottle of Merlot and for all the little extras to make our stay so special.

Anton and Marti

I would just like to thank you again on behalf of my wife and I for the privilege to have spent the weekend on your farm. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would also recommend it to other nature loving people. We did the Middelrug trail on Saturday and the views were breathtaking. And the fishing was fantastic as well. The bass, although smallish in size, were really feisty and put up a big fight. We plan to return in future. Thanks for everything.
